Here’s How to Hire the Right Plumber

You know when it's the best time to find the right plumber?

NOW!

Not later.

Not when you’re in the middle of a plumbing emergency.

If you walked into your kitchen or bathroom to see it flooded, the last thing you’re going to do is extensive research to make sure you’re picking the most reliable and trustworthy plumber in your city.

What you’d do instead is Google, ‘emergency plumber,’ in your location and pick one listed on the first page of Google’s results, check their ratings, and give them a ring.

When you’re in a bind, you’re not going to have time to do research. You’re just going to go with the first plumber that seems okay on Google.

But that’s what we’re here for. Our experts have put this handy dandy list of qualities to look for in your next plumber, considerations to keep in mind, and the questions you must ask before you even think about hiring them.

At JustUs Plumbing we adhere and meet every single expectation on our list. If you’re looking for Round Rock plumbing services (or are in a surrounding community) and need plumbing work done, don’t trust just any plumbing company, Just Us!

What to Consider:

  • When speaking with plumbers we highly recommend keeping in mind to not just go for the most affordable plumber you come across. You want to make sure you're getting quality work done on your house or business. So, consider more than just the price. And always go with quality over affordability.
  • Do your research on the plumber you’re considering hiring. Don't just go with the first good plumber you come across online. Make sure to ask our suggested questions below and look out for the following qualities…

Questions to Ask:

In our How to Hire the Right Plumber Guideline, we’ve combined questions about the plumber’s cost, business, and how they perform on the job. You may find that you don’t need to ask all the questions we have outlined. But, we do suggest making it a point to ask the ones we highlight as most important.

Let’s get started...

Questions About Cost:

1) Is this the total cost and can I get an estimate in writing?

Before hiring anybody to work on your home, it's best to get an estimate from them. Make sure to get it in writing so you have something to look back on and can hold the company accountable to honor their original quote if needed.

At JustUs Plumbing, when you call, we send our reliable plumbers to do a free diagnostic and then send you pricing and options for the best way we know how to fix your plumbing issues.

2) Do you charge a flat rate or hourly rate?

Before you say, ‘get to work,’ it’s important to know exactly how you will be charged. This should be included in the estimate, but if not, be sure to ask if they charge a flat rate or hourly rate.

You can expect a flat rate charge when you work with JustUs Plumbing.

3) When is payment due?

This should be included in the write up estimate, but if not ask. It’s important to know when your payment is due so there’s no confusion later on.

4) What types of payment do you accept?

A lot of companies now accept payment online, via Venmo or Paypal, cash, or check, making it convenient to pay any way you like. Some places allow tips to be included in overall price, so if you’re extra happy with your work you may have this option too.

5) Do you charge for parts?

This is where cost can sneak up on you if you’re not careful.

Most plumbers try to stay fully stocked with parts needed to fix common plumbing issues. That way, as soon as you call they can get to work. However, there may be times your plumbing problems are less common or require more parts than expected.

Either way, it’s a good idea to ask what costs you can expect ahead of time, in case you find yourself in this situation.

Questions About Their Business:

1) How much experience do you have?

This is a great question to better understand your potential plumber’s background, skills, and their overall experience in the field. Some people may be okay with hiring a plumber with 5 years experience, while others prefer a plumber who has closer to 10 years.

This is a key factor to following our How to Hire the Right Plumber Guideline. Ultimately, this parts up to you. We say go with what makes you feel comfortable to make sure you hire the right plumber for you.

Keep in mind, the plumber you use should have a minimum of 4 years under their belt by completing an Apprentice Program.

2) Are you licensed?

If you’re looking for Round Rock plumbing services (or anywhere in Texas for that matter) this is a must ask question because a person can't legally become a plumber in Texas without being licensed. And to earn a license, they first have to complete a 4-5 year Apprenticeship Program and then pass an exam. When you ask, pay attention to their response - they should always answer with a confident yes. If they don't, we suggest you move on and keep looking for the right plumber.

3) Do you have testimonies or references?

References give you more insight into how your potential plumber works, responds, treats customers, and ultimately helps you decide if they’re someone you’d like to work with.

You can usually find references on sites like Google, Yelp, and their testimonies section on their website. If for some reason you can't find their references online, ask them where they can be found.

Questions About How They Perform Job:

1) Do you send out Apprentices or Journeymen to work on a plumbing job?

First things first, here’s the difference...

Note, it’s not uncommon for apprentices to assist with plumbing projects, but they should always be accompanied and managed by a journeyman.

2) What is your response time?

This is a mandatory question because the answer could be killer for your bank account.

Plumbing issues like busted pipes and leaks can lead to serious damage costing thousands of dollars just because the plumber didn’t respond quick enough. Issues like this require fast responses.

Make sure you’re able to depend on the plumber you choose with quick turnaround times so you avoid costly damages to your home.

You can rest assured that our reliable plumbers respond appropriately and urgently to each call. For non-emergencies, our turnaround time is 1-4 hours depending on the issue you’re facing.
